Israel the name of a specific person and later an ancient Kingdom of Israel (formally Jacob), long before the modern country was formed in 1948. Historically, the name developed through three connected stages: first as a person (Israel/Jacob), then as a people (the Israelites—the 12 tribes descended from his sons), and later as an ancient kingdom. It was not originally a political nation-state in the modern sense as we understand today.

A Person’s Name
The name originates in the Book of Genesis with the patriarch Jacob, the grandson of Abraham. According to the Bible, Jacob was renamed “Israel” after wrestling with a divine figure. The name literally means “one who struggles with God.” In this sense, “Israel” is both a personal identity and a title representing spiritual struggle. Because of this, his descendants became known as the “Children of Israel” or “Israelites.”

A People (The 12 Tribes)
The biblical Israelites, or “Children of Israel,” refer to the biological and tribal descendants of Jacob’s 12 sons. These formed the 12 tribes of Israel.

The land was divided among these 12 tribes, establishing their identity as a people rooted in both lineage and territory.

When the Bible refers to Israel in this sense, it often describes a covenant community or theocracy based on religious law, rather than a modern nation-state.

An Ancient Kingdom
Long before modern times, there was a historical Kingdom of Israel in that region.

The United Monarchy: According to the Bible, King David and King Solomon ruled a united kingdom of all twelve tribes called “Israel” around 1000 BCE.

The Divided Kingdoms: After Solomon died, the nation split into two kingdoms. The northern kingdom retained the name “Kingdom of Israel” and consisted of ten tribes, while the southern kingdom became known as the Kingdom of Judah.

Archaeological evidence supports the historical presence of Israel, including ancient Egyptian records such as the Merneptah Stele from around 1208 BCE, which mentions a people called “Israel” living in that land.

Why the Name Changed
After the northern kingdom of Israel was conquered by the Assyrians in 722 BCE, only the southern kingdom of Judah remained. This is where the term “Jew” originates, derived from Judah.

Later, after a series of revolts, the Romans renamed the region “Palestine” in an effort to diminish the Jewish connection to the land.

The Modern State of Israel (1948)
When the modern state was established in 1948, its founders chose the name “Israel” as a callback to the ancient biblical roots and the historical kingdom that existed thousands of years earlier.

The modern state is a secular nation-state operating under international law and a parliamentary democracy, which is very different from the ancient tribal kingdom and covenant-based society described in the Bible.

The name was selected through a process of elimination, with alternatives such as “Zion” or “Judea” being considered but ultimately not chosen.

Source of Confusion
Because the modern state uses the same name as the biblical person and ancient kingdom, many people assume they are the same entity. However, historians and religious scholars often clarify that the modern state is a political creation of the 20th century, distinct from the biblical Israel of earlier times.

Summary
Israel in the Bible refers first to a person (Jacob), then to his descendants (the 12 tribes), and later to an ancient kingdom. In contrast, Israel today refers to a modern nation-state founded in 1948. The Country Israel is NOT accepting Gods new Covenant and they are not obeying the

An Israelite is a descendant of one of the 12 tribes and is primarily an ancient term, while an Israeli refers to a modern citizen of the State of Israel and is not a term used in the Bible.

The country of Israel is not obeying laws of God 200–300 out of 613. This country Israel is not obeying god’s law it is also denying the son of God and the new covenant but see the problem here is even in the denial to say they will practice the old covenant and then not obey 200 to 300 of those laws. Let me also point out one of the laws in which they are saying they don’t want to build a new temple to obey all the laws one of the laws is that no other religious temples should be on the lands of the Israelites.

No animal sacrifices are not performed, and not all laws in the Torah (Mosaic law) are obeyed in the same manner as real Israelites of ancient times. So they are living in sin without sacrifice they are denying the son of God and the words of God.

The Torah (the first five books of Moses) is indeed the foundation of what Christians call the Old Covenant. In this tradition, it is the sacred contract established between God and the Israelites at Mount Sinai. While modern scholarship discusses multiple authors over centuries, traditional Jewish and Christian belief holds that Moses was the primary author who transcribed these words directly from God.

Jeremiah 31:31-34
“The days are coming,” declares the Lord,
“when I will make a new covenant
with the people of Israel
and with the people of Judah.
It will not be like the covenant
I made with their ancestors
when I took them by the hand
to lead them out of Egypt,
because they broke my covenant,
though I was a husband to them,”
declares the Lord.
“This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel
after that time,” declares the Lord.
“I will put my law in their minds
and write it on their hearts.
I will be their God,
and they will be my people.
No longer will they teach their neighbor,
or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord,’
because they will all know me,
from the least of them to the greatest,”
declares the Lord.
“For I will forgive their wickedness
and will remember their sins no more.”

Israel the country has not built the Third Temple primarily due to lies and claims of severe political, religious, and security constraints surrounding the Temple Mount, which is occupied by the Islamic Al-Aqsa Mosque complex. Attempting to build would likely trigger a massive conflict, and Jewish law requires specific, currently unknown requirements for its construction. Yet this is also clear disobedient of Gods law in the Old Covenant. (OLD)

A core component of the biblical Mosaic Covenant (or Old Covenant) was that Yahweh required exclusive worship, which included the prohibition of idolatry and the centralization of sacrificial worship in one designated place.

Key Aspects of This Covenant Law: Centralization of Worship: Deuteronomy 12:5-14 commands the Israelites to “take heed to thyself that thou offer not thy burnt offerings in every place that thou seest,” but only in the place the Lord would choose.

Exclusion of Other Temples/Altars: This prohibition aimed to prevent the corruption of worship by forbidding the establishment of temples or high places dedicated to other gods (or even to Yahweh elsewhere).

Destruction of Foreign Sites: As part of the covenant, Israel was tasked with tearing down the altars, breaking the pillars, and burning the shrines of foreign nations (Exodus 34:13, Deuteronomy 7:5).

One God, One Temple: This restriction was designed to emphasize that there is only one God, and therefore, only one authorized site for sacrificial atonement, which was eventually established in Jerusalem.

While this restriction was foundational to the Mosaic Covenant, it is important to note that Christian theology generally holds that the New Covenant (Jesus Christ) made the Old Covenant—including this sacrificial temple system—obsolete, replacing physical temples with the church or the body of believers the temples of God. While the Torah’s laws were written on stone, the prophecy in Jeremiah promised they would eventually be written on human hearts.

Jewish Believers in Jesus worldwide estimates suggest that there are now roughly 1 million followers of Jesus of Jewish descent worldwide. United States: The largest population resides in the United States, with estimates often ranging from 175,000 to over 870,000 Estimates: As of 2025–2026, there are an estimated 30,000 Messianic Jews residing in Country of Israel.

God’s words are that the new covenant is to come and then the temples are destroyed and then the Ark old Covenant is missing. I do not think they lost it I also do not believe it was stolen. I believe the new covenant with believing in Jesus it is written on your heart.

Jeremiah 3:16-17: The prophet foresaw a time when the Ark would no longer be missed, saying, “they shall say no more, The ark of the covenant of the Lord: neither shall it come to mind… neither shall that be done any more”. This implies that in the new covenant, God’s presence would no longer be centered on a physical object, but rather on the hearts of His people.

The Ark in Heaven: Some theologians point to Revelation 11:19, which mentions the Ark of the Covenant being seen in God’s temple in heaven, suggesting it was taken from earth to heaven for safekeeping.
